Bio-Image Summer School Paris 2005
Presentation
In brief
Summer school on Manipulation, visualisation and modeling of single molecules
The main objective of this summer school is to give scientists,
especially young researchers, the opportunity to explore new frontiers
in biological imaging at a site where high-level scientists in chemistry,
physics and biology actively collaborate. The proposed summer school
(New Frontiers in Biological Imagery, BIO-IMAGE) is not
intended as a review of available equipment or of current
technologies, but rather as an opportunity to provide the scientific
community with cutting edge expertise concerning new and emerging
technologies. This objective will be reached by bringing together chemists,
physicists and biologists who are implicated in the development of
hardcore imaging technologies.
Organizers:
Marc Baaden (Laboratoire de Biochimie Théorique, Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique)
Claude Boccara (Laboratoire d'Optique Physique, ESPCI)
Vincent Croquette (Laboratoire de Physique Statistique, Ecole Normale Supérieure)
Maxime Dahan (Laboratoire Kastler Brossel, Physics Department, Ecole normale supérieure)
We are organizing a summer school dedicated to single molecule
micromanipulation, visualisation and modeling in Paris on the Montagne
St. Geneviève this summer. This school, Bio-Image
will be held from July 11th to the 22nd 2005. The goal of the school
is to provide basic knowledge to PhD students, postdocs and young
researchers in the field of single molecule investigations especially
in micromanipulation, visualisation and modeling. The program will
include organised visits of several laboratories on site.
Paris offers many cultural and culinary attractions and is an
excellent centre for exploring the heart of France. Note also that
Bastille Day, the French national holiday, will be celebrated on July
14th with renowned firework displays. The main one is held near the Eiffel
Tower - which is very pretty.
We expect 40 to 50 participants with full accomodation. The registration fee in this case is 500 Euros. A smaller number of participants without accomodation will also be accepted with a registration fee of 150 Euros. A pre-registration allowing us to select the participants is now open. The deadline for registration has been extended to April 7th, 2005. Our selection process should be finish on April 15th, 2005. In principle, financial support will be available for some selected applicants who absolutely need it to participate.
The 500 Euros fee covers
entrance to all the lectures
documents (program and list of participants)
accommodation at the ENS
breakfast, lunch and dinner
coffee breaks
internet access facilities
The 150 Euros fee covers

You are now able to pre-register on-line via this website. Final
registration will take place after April 15th and your registration will only be
accepted and acknowledged after your registration fee has been
received. We accept payment via credit card, via cheque or via "Bon de
commande".
The opening session will start early on Monday 11th (plan to arrive on the 10th). The
end of the summer school is expected on Friday 22nd, at 18h00. The
coursework will correspond to 60 h of lectures. Each speaker
will typically give up to two 1h30 lectures.
